Hamilton at Keller Auditorium

Musical producer Lin-Manuel Miranda, fresh off the huge success from his previous Broadway play, In the Heights, conceptualized Hamilton for a number of years before it opened in the Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2015. It was in this first run that Miranda also portrayed the lead role. The entire production, including its talented cast and second to none score received extremely positive praise from both critics and the audiences alike.

The Musical, as you might know, is a historical story created about one of the Countries Founding Fathers, but the show takes a contemporary and forward-thinking approach, as seen in the music genres chosen and especially in its multicultural cast. Additionally, the 2016 Tony Awards, where Hamilton bagged 11 out of 16 nominations, is a display of its success. Hamilton’s first cast consisted of the actors, Philippa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jonathan Groff. Individually, the cast was already filled with both well-known nominees and previous award winners, but their wide range and rich performances collected together brought the show to a brand-new level. The production team, just as incredibly talented, earned Tony Awards for the Musical. Thomas Kail for Best Direction, Andy Blankenbuehler for Best Choreography, Alex Lacamoire for Best Orchestrations, Howell Binkley for Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Paul Tazewell for Best Costume Design of a Musical, and of course the man himself Lin-Manuel Miranda for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical, all topped the 2016 Tony Awards. Above all and unsurprisingly, the Musical also grabbed Best Musical for 2016. The current cast and production crew in each new venue where the Musical is on tour brings the same passion and enthusiasm in their runs, with glowing reviews maintained regularly.

Hamilton’s global rise to fame led to opening many doors worldwide for the fans to experience the Musical. It has continued for the past 10 years to perform not just in the United States, but also over in the UK's West End and in various locations across Asia. Hamilton’s limited season will be making its way to Portland throughout March (and on Thursday 13th March 2025) at Keller Auditorium, selling out at one more world-class stage with the finest facilities and sound engineering that rivals even Broadway and West End theaters.
