After tours in the world’s most popular theaters as well as Broadway itself and London’s West End, Hamilton will now also be playing for a limited season this spring in Keller Auditorium of Portland, an especially renowned entertainment venue known for its leading amenities fit to host top-of-the-line plays and musicals.
Hamilton honors the life of Alexander Hamilton, produced and composed by the multi-talented Lin-Manuel Miranda, basing it off the 2004 biography of Ron Chernow. It recounts the historical times of Hamilton himself in a ‘hipper’ style, staying devoted to the events behind Hamilton's life but with creative direction and musical scoring that makes Hamilton extremely entertaining. Hamilton actually began off Broadway in the late summer of 2015 and was immediately met with breathtaking reviews from its opening night. As well as a number of press articles and audiences, The Washington Post, called it “making ecstatic history”, as the production’s performance with its breathtaking cast including the likes of Lin-Manuel Miranda himself in the main role and Tony Award winner Jonathan Groff, astounded audiences in its first performance with a brilliant opening night. Hamilton went on over the next decade to win eleven Tony Awards from 16 nominations, in addition to Olivier, Grammy, and Pulitzer Prize Awards.
Ever since its debut, the show has also gone on to be performed in lots of theaters across the world, where it has been met with continuously positive reviews. BroadwayWorld calls The production “the hottest ticket in town”, as it lends itself to a bigger range in audience due to it being understandable to both the more mature audiences who were interested in the history behind the Musical, and the newer generations that hears about the exciting and innovative concept behind Hamilton. Across in the U.K.'s London’s West End, TimeOut had concerns over Hamilton being overblown, but that “Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical about Alexander Hamilton, the first secretary of the U.S. Treasury, is actually better than the hype suggests”. Additionally, recently the touring cast in its Manila, Philippines’ performance, PEP PH describes Hamilton as a “visual and sensory feast that adds layers of depth to the narrative”; “This musical is a masterpiece not because it tells a flawless story, but because it brilliantly captures the essence of the imperfect human experience, and in doing so, it achieves perfection on the stage”, they add.
Magazine critics and viewers alike agree that Hamilton is a must-watch this spring as it picks up its performances all over America.
