Shakespeare’s original play has historically been known as one of the saddest plays of all time, with the main protagonists' passionate devotion for one another leading to their choice to commit suicide. Making use of Shakespeare and his wife as tools in the play itself however, West End's fresh show, & Juliet, tweaks the previous story by allowing Juliet to discover what life has to offer after the death of her true love and focusing on her own coming-of-age story. Due to its song choices, the musical set the stage for welcoming a new fanbase to theater.
