Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz, creative founders of WICKED, were motivated by the 1995 Gregory Maguire story "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West".
This broadway musical has been hailed for its expansion of the story of Oz, providing The Wizard of Oz fans around the world a look into Glinda and Elphaba (later known as the Wicked Witch of the West). Wicked, even with the main characters starting off as enemies, it's a deep tale about acceptance and friendship.
